Being a stay at home mom can drive you insane! Especially if you don’t give yourself some “me time.” Being a stay at home mom, people tend to have a lot of opinions. Some say we have the hardest job, some say we’re just plain old lazy. (I have my days…don’t get it twisted) People hold high expectations towards stay at home moms. We must keep the house clean, we must run all errands, ordering take out is a BIG NO! Our kids should be three grade levels ahead of children that have mothers that go to work, because god forbid. We are stay at home moms/teachers. I can go on and ON AND ON about expectations of stay at home moms but do you ever ask us, “How are you?” “Are you ok?”
“Do you need time for yourself?” And NO! Doing errands like going grocery shopping or driving home by yourself after dropping the kids off to school doesn’t count as ME TIME! Unlike, working mothers. They have an outlet to leave their motherly duties at home. I RESPECT ALL WORKING MOTHERS. ESPECIALLY WORKING SINGLE MOTHERS. I bow down and applaud you amazing goddesses! Stay at home moms need breaks too.
Well anyways, I am super shy/ anti–social but I did need some me time. I looked on my base website and I found a “Coffee and Create” event happening on base sponsored by our base library. Coffee? Painting? Away from the husband and kids for a couple hours AND it’s FREE? WHERE DO I SIGN UP!? So, long story short. I signed up a month prior to the event and was counting down the days til the event. I was excited. Normally you see these painting classes paired with wine but coffee was good enough for me. Once I heard the garage open and my husband pull up. I yelled, “DADDY IS HOME! MOMMY IS OUT! BYE!” without even looking back. I hoped in my van and drove off! I got there like 20 minutes early. (Like I said, I NEEDED SOME ME TIME!)
ANYWAYS, I had so much fun! I guess it was the first Coffee and Create event they ever hosted on base. Well, I need them to come back again! We ended up finishing 2 hours earlier than the event time stated and some moms were like, “I told my husband I’d be home in a few hours.. I don’t want to go home. Let’s go out!” Well, I felt the same way but like my blog is.. Your girl was broke so I couldn’t run off to Target. I felt so much better after this painting class. I didn’t have to think about mopping the floors, feeding the kids or washing my husbands uniform. I just had to make sure my painting was on point. Call me the Blending Queen honey! I was so proud of my painting! Girl!! I was like, you done out did yourself on this one! Blending skills on fleek. Just like your makeup!! (HAIR FLIP!) Sa-shay, AWAY girls.. My painting was the bomb.com!
Pretty much what I’m trying to say here is, LET THE STAY AT HOME MOMS HAVE SOME TIME FOR THEMSELVES!! I went in stressing about what I had to do when I got home, and I left the class running back to my van excited to show off my painting to ask my husband to hang that shit up for everyone to see! I went from zombie mom to Picasso in just a few hours. You don’t have to take a painting class to be happy but find something just for you. Find a groupon to a nice hair salon and get your hair done, go take a yoga or Zumba class. Go take yourself out on a dessert date. Whatever it is, make sure you take some time for yourself mom. YOU DESERVE IT!
Nothing but good vibes,
